The Aspen/Snowmass events calendar rocks, literally
There is never a quiet weekend in Aspen. This weekend, Warren Miller debuts at the Wheeler Opera House, gearing the locals up for the ski season, while all of the Aspenites are also boasting about a memorable Halloween. As Halloween weekend approaches, I am ready to experience the night life in Aspen. All the locals are currently preparing me for the "best Halloween in the United States." I just hope that Aspen can live up to its reputation. Unfortunately, I do not think that my costume will make the cut up here if everyone is going as all out as I am hearing about. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

Skiing and Snowboarding begins in Aspen / Snowmass in less than one month
Get your skis and snowboards ready...temperatures are dropping, Halloween is approaching, and that means ski season is almost here. Aspen and Snowmass will be opening the slopes and running the lifts for skiers and snowboarders beginning Thursday, November 24th. Shortly after Aspen Mountain makes its winter debut, Highlands will follow with the unveiling of the new Deep Temerity Lift, opening up over 200 acres of advanced and expert terrain. Look to take advantage of early season specials when rooms can be as cheap as $69/night, and take advantage of all the untracked snow with all the locals. Winter Whiteout Weekend
This winter, on February 11th and 12th, a number of locals and visitors will be "Going for the Gold" during Aspen Valley Ski Club's Winter Whiteout Weekend. AVSC is hosting a Go for the Gold Gala which helps raise money for the AVSC, an organization that provides ski and snowboard programs to over 1,700 local children, including scholarships to over 400 low-income participants. Those attending the Go for the Gold Gala have the opportunity to enjoy a glass of champagne on the 14 minute Gondola ride up to the top of Aspen Mountain's Sundeck, dine on a magnificent dinner served by the award-winning chefs of the five star Little Nell Hotel, and participate in the live and silent auction. Last year's items included buying Aspen Mountain for a day of skiing just for you and your friends, exclusive helicopter skiing trips and a brand-new Porsche Cayenne SUV. For more information on this event go to www.teamavsc.com . Travel and lodging packages will be arranged through Stay Aspen Snowmass, contact them at 011 970 925 9000 or at www.stayaspensnowmass.com. Hope to see you there.

AVSC Gearing Up for Winter Season
It's funny how Fall in Aspen gets overshadowed by both Winter and Summer, but there's something really fantastic about this time of year. My name is Alan Cole, and I work in marketing and fundraising for the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC). I drove into work today as the rain down in Carbondale switched to snow up in Aspen looking at the low fog marking the line between the fall foliage at the base of the mountains and the snow above. It's great for two reasons. It's beautiful outside and with the chill in the morning air there's more snow ahead and we're all thinking about the upcoming season. AVSC provides ski and snowboard programs to over 1,700 kids throughout the Roaring Fork Valley and communities as far away as Rifle and New Castle on the I-70 corridor. Kids start at 3 and 1/2 years of age with our learn to ski programs and we recently had one of our snowboard athletes, Jordan Karlinski of Snowmass Village, make the U.S. Snowboard Team. Our mission is to create opportunities for youth to engage and excel in winter sports. With enrollment going on right now, things are busy where I work.
At the Club, we're already getting our older ski and snowboard athletes in shape for the season with a wide and ecclectic variety of dryland training. Rock hopping in the Roaring Fork River, sand skiing down at Sand Dunes National Park near Alamosa, and no-holds-barred Ultimate Frisbee between our Freestyle and Snowboard Teams. Three of our top alpine skiers, Toby Lamar, Alice McKennis and Paul Britvar travelled to Hintertux, Austria for training with some world-class talent. You can read more about them here.
Thanks to Stay Aspen Snowmass for the opportunity to post here and as the snow starts to fly I'll have more news from our Club and our athletes.

Colorado Snowstorm Makes its Mark in Aspen
As extreme winter conditions passed through the state of Colorado, covering some parts of the state in over 2 feet of snow, Aspen received a reported 8 inches at the peak of Aspen Mountain. The snowfall created a picturesque winter scenery, and left locals daydreaming about skiing in fresh powder. Below, you will see one reason why so many locals and visitors make the journey to Aspen's Maroon Bells.

The Historic Hotel Jerome delays renovation until 2007
After the Oklahoma Publishing Company acquired the historic Hotel Jerome in Aspen, the new owners decided to invest in a 20 million dollar plus renovation. The hotel was originally scheduled to close after the 2006 ski season, but will remain open until after the 2006/2007 winter ski season, and close from April-November 2007. The renovation will retain the historic charm, and will include new additions such as an exclusive spa, upgrades in the rooms, and new restaurants. The Hotel Jerome already surpasses guests' expectations with such famous bars as the J-bar and the Library, an award winning chef, and spacious suites. The Hotel Jerome is a place that completes the Aspen experience. More information on the Hotel Jerome.
