Snowmagical Family Festival Celebrates 25 Years
July 28-30 in Snowmass Village, Colorado
Here is the lates press release from Snowmass Village:
(Snowmass Village, CO) Snowmass is renowned as a premier winter destination for the family. With free family activities, convenient lodging, and a mountain of adventures ranging from mountainboarding to a rodeo to campfire sing-alongs, Snowmass is a summer haven for families. Celebrating 25 years this summer is the Snowmagical Family Fun Fest, a free weekend event that has long been hailed as the cornerstone of the Snowmass summer.
"The Snowmagical Family Fun Fest is one of the best family festivals in the region, and we are proud to welcome its 25th anniversary this year," says Snowmass Village Marketing Director Susan Hamley. "If you're looking for a beautiful mountain resort to make memories of a lifetime with your kids, this is a magical weekend to head to the cooler mountains for a family getaway. Best of all, all daytime performances and workshops are absolutely free."
The Snowmagical Family Fun Fest, which has brought in crowds as larges as 5,000-strong, boasts three free days of high caliber entertainment by national performers. From professional Disney magician Terry Ward to ventriloquist Wayne Francis to award-winning storyteller Denise Berry-Hanna, the Snowmass Village Mall is packed with back-to-back performances and non-stop activities.
During the day families can participate in everything from juggling and magic workshops to face painting to being a part of the madcap antics of such talented performers as Mysto the Magi, the Firehouse Circus, Mike T., and a whole team of Colorado performers. The evenings are filled with special events such as an outdoor showing of the movie ET, a magical dine-around with magicians in participating restaurants, and a late-evening magic cabaret show. Special exhibits such as local fire trucks and the Aspen Safety Trailer add a dimension of learning for kids as well.
"It's a huge, affordable, family-oriented weekend," says event organizer Doc Eason, who has run the festival for 25 years and is a renowned magician in his own right. "And when I say family, I don't mean there's a bunch of clowns running around for toddlers. These are national multi-level entertainers and performances that will appeal to the biggest and littlest kid in every family. It's outstanding family entertainment in a beautiful resort at a great time of year to head to the mountains."
For Doc Eason, the Snowmagical Family Fun Fest has been a 25-year labor of love. Originally begun in 1981 as the Magic & Puppet Festival, the event went through various incarnations and precarious times over the past quarter century. Twice the festival was almost cancelled, including one year where Doc Eason personally raised enough money to ensure its survival.
"The festival is a beloved entity both for audiences and performers alike and it was really important to keep it going," says Eason. "The performers are working for a pittance of their normal rates, but they have such a great time and know they will have really receptive audiences."
Along with Doc Eason, veteran performers Jim Jackson and Denise Berry Hanna have been with the festival from the start, as has the Snowmass Wildcat Fire District, which Eason calls a great supporter of the community and the event.
The Snowmagical Family Fun Fest has come a long way from its humble beginnings to reach this quarter century milestone and boasts the strongest line-up of shows and activities ever.

WHAT'S NEW AT ASPEN/SNOWMASS
Here is the latest news from Aspen Skiing Company:
Snowmass -
The renaissance of Snowmass continues this season with the sleek, new eight-person Elk Camp Gondola - bringing guests from the new base village to the top of the Elk Camp Meadows in 8.5 minutes. Combined with last season's new Village Express six-pack and Sky Cab gondola, the lift network at Snowmass promises to whisk you up the mountain almost as fast as you can come down! Other on-mountain upgrades for 2006-2007 include a new and improved terrain park and halfpipe area while future projects such as the new Elk Camp Meadows activity center and the new Sam's Knob restaurant are just a season away.

With development underway on the new base village at Snowmass, families and guests alike will soon be able to enjoy a 25,000-square-foot adventure center, a 15,000 square-foot conference space and 64,000 square feet of shops, pubs and restaurants - all connected to the upper village by a two-minute gondola ride via the new Sky Cab.
Aspen -
After decades of faithful service, the Aspen Mountain gondola has received a complete overhaul with, most notably, 147 new Swiss made cabins, hung during the Spring of 2006. The new six-person cabins offer more interior space and floor-to-ceiling windows to soak in the surrounding vistas before plunging down the slopes.
Highlands -
Unveiled last season, the Deep Temerity triple chair at Aspen Highlands serves up some of the steepest lift-serviced skiing and riding in North America - opening up hundreds of acres of gladed and powdery terrain that, until now, remained inaccessible. For 2006-2007 additional acres will be added, solidifying this newly famous region as a must-hit for advanced or expert guests. After burning your way down Deep Temerity's 1,700 vertical feet, you'll find the speedy 7.3-minute ride back to the top a welcome respite.
Buttermilk -
As the undisputed home of the ESPN Winter X Games through 2010, Buttermilk's terrain park delivers the big features that have turned several local kids into both Olympians and X Games super stars. Outside of the park and pipe, Buttermilk remains North America's most ideal family learning destination, serviced primarily by the new West Buttermilk Express detachable quad chairlift as well as hundreds of friendly staff and instructors.

Electrifying Music Stage Show Comes to Snowmass July 8
Here is the latest press release from Snowmass:
(Snowmass Village, CO) Snowmass Village continues its tradition of offering high caliber music and entertainment with its first free Massive Music & Movies weekend July 6-8.
"We're thrilled to offer such talented groups as the Mutaytor, Particle, and the Iguanas in these absolutely free performances," says Susan Hamley, Director of Marketing for Snowmass Village. "Snowmass provides great summer value and an appealing weekend destination for visitors. We produce and bring in events, particularly music, to draw people initially. Once they visit and experience the beauty, adventure and other amenities we offer, the likelihood of them returning, regardless of an event, is good. Massive Music & Movies is an integral component toward that goal."
The weekend starts on Thursday July 6, at 6 p.m. on Fanny Hill with a performance by favorite New Orleans Band the Iguanas. Hailing from New Orleans, where Latin and Caribbean music have a long and glorious history of interaction with R&B, blues and jazz, the band formed in 1989 and within a few years had emerged as one of the most popular bands in one of the world's most musical cities. Despite their well-deserved reputation as a party band non pareil, New Orleans' Iguanas have always had a flair for melodies and lyrics as well as grooves.
On Friday, bring your warm blankets and popcorn back to Fanny Hill for an outdoor screening of Grease at dusk (9 p.m.). Saturday evening jams, starting at 6 p.m. with the group Particle and their unique blend of high-octane soundscapes that blend rock & roll, electronica, and funk. This Los Angeles Jam Band formed in 2000 and quickly garnered a following of "Particle People" with their dedication to performing late night sets at such festivals as Bonnaroo. Particle was selling out venues like the Bowery Ballroom in New York City before its first album was ever released.
The absolute highlight of the weekend is the most electrifying and unique act to appear in the entire Valley this summer. The Mutaytor, which takes to the stage at 7:30 p.m., combines 50 tribal drums, live-mixed electronica, fire performers, hoop dancers, aerial artists, John Avila (Oingo Boingo) on bass, Steve Reid (Rippingtons/Supertramp) on percussion, a live horn section, chine parade lions, giant screen visuals, laser lights and a bevy of interactive dancers and performers. This spectacular troupe offers a show that is part hip-grinding techno/retro-funk, part audience-interactive post-modern circus. The act takes drastically-advanced elements of the Grateful Dead, Parliament-Funkadelic, the Crystal Method, Louis Prima and Blue Man Group and throws them directly at spectators as riotous surreal entertainment notable for "turning civilians into rockstars."
ABC Television called them "one of the hottest stage shows in LA," while Music Connection called them "arguably one of the best live shows running on the West Coast." They have been highly lauded by everyone from Universal Studios to Cirque De Soleil to the Special Olympics to the L.A. Lakers, and Snowmass is thrilled to be a stop on their prestigious coast-to-coast summer tour.
The final free Massive Music & Movies weekend August 17- 19 includes singer/songwriter Sonya Kitchell, the Alfred Hitchcock movie Rear Window, and the Grammy-award-winning group Nickel Creek, a word-of-mouth sensation on the progressive bluegrass scene.
