NORBA NMBS Finals & Free Chairlift Rides Send Riders & Spectators Uphill at Snowmass this Weekend
Here is the latest press release from Snowmass Village, Colorado:
Snowmass Village, which offers over 40 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, will offer free chairlift rides to both NORBA competitors and spectators this weekend August 10-13 during the National Mountain Bike Series competitions. While normally only the Burlingame chairlift is open for a fee, this weekend both the Burlingame and Coney Glade chairlifts will be open and free to both the public and competitors.
"It is such an honor to host the NORBA national finals," says marketing director Susan Hamley, "and we hope spectators will really take advantage of the free chairlift rides to check out both the mountain biking competitions and the incredible trails in Snowmass."
The lifts are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily and can be ridden for free by picking up tickets at the Snowmass Village Mall Ticket Pavilion before heading down to the Burlingame Chairlift. Bikes are allowed on both lifts at no extra charge.
The National Mountain Bike Series, which is expected to bring several thousand amateur and professional mountain bikers to town, has competitions in cross country, downhill, mountain cross, dual slalom, super-d, short track, and observed trials events. Riders will be racing within their age category and within their ability. The event also has received the prestigious Union Cyclist International (UCI) designation, ensuring participation from all 50 states and a huge international field of riders vying for UCI points on their way to the World Championships. Team Honda will be in town, as will the Rainbow Jersey worn by former downhill World Cup champion Greg Minaar.
Along with experiencing the fierce competition of internationally-ranked athletes, mountain biking fans can check out Colorado's largest cycling expo located in lots 10 and 11. There they can see how the professional and amateur teams prep for the race and talk to the top cycling industry experts. The schedule of events includes many non-competitive outlets for the entire family with daily demos, clinics, free kids races, and more.
Evenings are filled with entertainment courtesy of Pabst Blue Ribbon, which hosts post-competition celebrations on Friday at the Cirque beginning at 5 pm and on Saturday at the Mountain Dragon beginning at approximately 7 pm. Both venues boast specials and prize giveaways and the chance to mingle with the world's greatest mountain biking athletes.
