INDEPENDENCE PASS OPENS FOR THE SEASON
THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2 PM
The Colorado Department of Transportation will reopen Independence Pass on SH 82 for the season on Thursday, May 24, just in time for Memorial Day holiday travel. The 12,095-foot pass is closed each winter, due to harsh winter weather conditions, for the safety of the traveling public. Maintenance crews plan to open the pass at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, weather permitting; but motorists should be advised that any spring snowstorms could slow traffic at times.
