Pitkin County Airport Open House
To celebrate the on-time completion of the runway resurfacing project, Pitkin County has scheduled an open house at the airport one week from today on Wednesday, June 6th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Along with this comes a unique opportunity for the public to cruise the smooth new runway pavement that afternoon on anything that rolls without a motor! Bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, scooters, and wheelchairs will all be welcome. Based on word I am already hearing across town, we are expecting quite a turnout! Attached here is a flyer from Pitkin County with all the details.
Upon the reopening of the airport the following day, the first commercial flight on United Express from Denver is scheduled to land on Thursday, June 7th at 4:34 pm, and this will be followed by five more flights that evening from Denver, two from Salt Lake City on Delta, and one nonstop from Los Angeles later that night on United Express, which will signal the first time we have ever had daily nonstop service from LAX during the summertime. One week later on Friday, June 15, United Express will inaugurate their first ever summer nonstop service from SFO to ASE. This service will continue every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Labor Day weekend. All told, we are going to have 20% more available seats on a weekly basis this summer than last.
I'm certain I will see many of you on our new runway next Wednesday afternoon, and this event should be a great community kick-off to what I expect to be a spectacular summer!
